Download Free HandbookMartin Tierney, Managing Director of Limavady-based healthcare equipment manufacturer Seating Matters, has been announced as a finalist in the 2025 edition of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year (EoY) awards.
The awards are divided into three categories – emerging, established and international – with one overall winner also to be announced as the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2025 at a gala awards ceremony in November. Mr Tierney will compete in the international category thanks to the global success of the family-owned Seating Matters, its unique team culture and the life-changing impact of their products.
The overall winner will go on to represent Ireland at the World Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards in Monaco next June.
“This is the 28th year of the Entrepreneur of the Year programme… and with every year the bar is raised higher in terms of the quality of the impressive entrepreneurs that submitted nominations,” said Roger Wallace, the partner lead for the EY programme.
“From well-known and loved consumer brands to pioneering life science and technology businesses, and so much more in between, our finalists lead outstanding businesses creating opportunities and employment across Ireland.
“Our finalists are exploring new markets and technologies to solve challenges and find solutions that will revolutionise their own industries, confirming Ireland’s exceptional reputation as a centre of excellence for innovation and business,” he added.
As part of the process the finalists will attend a weeklong chief executive retreat in Tokyo and Kyoto in Japan as part of a strategic growth programme.
On this retreat, the finalists will join a group of more than 100 previous finalists and winners of the programme, where they will meet a range of entrepreneurs, businesspeople and academics.
Speaking of the news this morning, Martin Tierney said, “I’m truly honoured to be named an EY Entrepreneur of the Year finalist.
“This recognition is not mine alone—it’s a credit to my co-director brothers, Jonathan and Ryan, with whom I’ve had the privilege of starting and growing our company.
“Most of all, I want to acknowledge our mother, Martina Tierney, an Occupational Therapist who has been the inspiration behind our company from day one. She instilled an entrepreneurial spirit in us, and her relentless passion for improving patients’ lives sparked the idea that led us to start creating clinical products in the first place.
“Our chairs are used in hospitals, long-term care facilities and in people’s own homes all over the world and we are now expanding via the Tierco Healthcare Group & our group companies including Advanced Seating & A1 Risk Solutions. “We are proud to serve caregivers who dedicate themselves to serving patients
residents, or their loved ones every single day. Our mission is simple: to give caregivers the means to care.
“Being a finalist for this award is as much a recognition of their work as it is ours. Thank you to EY and to everyone who continues to support us on this journey,” he added.
