This lady was struggling with severe discomfort and high muscle tone due to inadequate seating. Her tilt-in-space wheelchair failed to accommodate her posture, exacerbating pain and increasing the risk of fixed postures and pressure injuries. Sitting was a painful experience, and she could only tolerate short periods before discomfort became unbearable. An Occupational Therapist assessed her needs and implemented key changes.

We introduced the Atlanta Chair, providing the sensory feedback she seeks, reducing muscle tone, and allowing her to sit comfortably. The client was also advised on bed positioning to support a 24-hour postural care approach.

We recommended adjustments to transfers and the environment to promote relaxation and sensory enrichment.

She now sits comfortably for extended periods, and her pain and discomfort have significantly reduced. Her risk of developing fixed postures and pressure injuries are lowered and she has had an improved overall well-being and quality of life!
