Unveiling Insights from our International Dementia Study on the Benefits of Seating
6th June 2024
Our latest research academic research project in partnership with dementia-specialist University of Stirling will deliver new clinical insights, investigating the role of seating for people living with dementia and highlight opportunities for innovation.
The project is led by respected lecturer and dementia design architect, Dr Junjie Huang, B.Arch., M.Arch., PhD and Angela Pusram, Research Associate, from the University of Stirling.
We have worked closely with University of Stirling and their Dementia Services Development Centre for two years since our therapeutic chairs went through their rigorous dementia product review process. Both Seating Matters chairs assessed, the Atlanta and Sorrento, received the highest level accreditation available - Class 1A, scoring 95% and 93% respectively.
A recent international study undertaken by Seating Matters showed Seating Matters chairs have a calming effect on patients with respondents reporting a staggering reduction in agitation and pressure injuries, alongside notable reductions in falls, staff supervision, contractures and muscle tone.

Seating Matters chairs have been clinically designed to provide postural support for those with degenerative, neurological conditions including dementia. The Seating Matters Atlanta™ and Sorrento™ have both obtained rating 1A accreditation by the Dementia Services Development Centre at the University of Stirling.
The Atlanta 2™ therapeutic chair has been clinically designed for patients with dementia, preventing slips and falls. Its cocoon-like design provides sensory feedback across the body, making them feel safe, secure and supported.
For patients at risk of falls, and those with vigorous, involuntary movements, the Atlanta has been clinically designed to provide a robust, durable and safe environment, reducing the risk of injuries and falls.
The Sorrento 2 has been engineered to offer the highest levels of clinical support for patients and offering caregivers an enhanced user experience when caring for their patients. Used widely in hospitals and rehabilitation units, the Sorrento 2 provides comfort, support, security and long term benefit to the user. The Sorrento 2 is compatible with stand aids and hoists.
For patients at risk of falls, and those with vigorous, involuntary movements, the Atlanta 2™ has been clinically designed to provide a robust, durable and safe environment, reducing the risk of injuries and falls.
